Colour Gone – A Villanelle Draft

Ushering in a darker day,
Coral skies twist slow away from
Whispering white to sombre grey.

The gentle, passing time is flayed
From bones of those who did succumb.
Ushering in a darker day.

Blue pastel skies will fade away
And in their place silence will come
Whispering white to sombre grey.

Still by the light of fading fey
Poor believers flock, pray and hum.
Ushering in a darker day.

And no longer will artists stray-
-With colours, creative hearts glum
Whispering white to sombre grey.

Bare boned fingers struggle to pray,
All that is good, will bad become.
Ushering in a darker day.
Whispering white to sombre grey.

Thanks for reading, this is my first draft for the first Villanelle I am writing. When it’s done I doubt it will look or sound anything like this, but it was a nice experiment.

      1. Absolutely! Sometimes I have to draft and redraft my longer poems so many times that I get sick of reading the same thing over and over again and so then I just post them to be done with it. Haha 😊 But in all honesty, I didn’t notice any bumpiness in rhythm in the later verses – I just noticed that the first verse rolled off the tongue absolutely effortlessly. Which made it stand out. This is really a great first draft! 🙂
