Wednesday Wordage.

The weekly post where I ramble on pretentiously about some form of complicated or long word that I like.

One of my favourite words at the moment, ameliorate, simply means to make something bad better. For example abolishing apartheid was an amelioration of living and social standards for those who were downtrodden.

A few ways you could be pretentious with it:

(When leaving the house to do some landscaping): ‘See ya love, I’m going to ameliorate the garden.’

(When transitioning from Asda Basics to Asda Finest): ‘We’ve really ameliorated our quality of shopping.’

(Upon slaying a dragon and freeing the abused slaves it has taken to ferry its gold around): ‘Go forth and ameliorate your standards of living.’
